We believe that a major step in the process of understanding and reducing the stress of illness and disability is owning our stories. That means sharing the ups and downs, even when it seems confusing or painful. Acknowledging the challenges instead of running away from, hiding, or burying them. For centuries, many have used creative outlets to communicate what is difficult to relay. More so, art-based interventions are widely recognized as an effective means of reducing physiological and psychological stress.

This show was developed to share the diverse stories of artists living with medical conditions, or serving as a caretaker – both of which are undeniably stressful. The exhibit celebrated all those who use art to sooth the emotional strain of their individual battles, channeling complex feelings into expressive creations.
